Former captain’s tribute

Following our recent celebration of 70 years at Gorton Street, the club has received a letter of encouragement from former Eccles RFC Club Captain and Chairman, Norman Johnson –

“What wonderful progress you have made in the last 50 plus years since I had the honour of being appointed club captain in 1964/65. I have fond memories of the old clubhouse, the concrete baths and the rush to be in it after the match before the water turned to mud! How things have changed.
I now live in Northumberland but maybe one day I will get round to calling in on match day. Good see some old friends are still active at the club and I would like to extend my best wishes to Andy Brunt, Mike Bateman, Bill Lowe and anyone else at the club who remembers me.
Thanks for retaining my name as a life member.
Once again congratulations on doing a fine job.
Regards,
Norman Johnson”
