The club is sad to report that Harry Sheldon passed away this week after a short spell in Salford Royal Hospital. Harry was a regular attendee at the Thursday morning “Fossils Work Parties” where his specialism was mid-height plumbing, as his age and health gradually limited his ability to work at low level or heights! Harry attended nearly all home fixtures and socialised after and in the evenings. On a Sunday Harry would act as a bouncer (crowd control officer), shepherding the mini and junior players into the club for food.
Harry never played at Eccles RFC but was a Lacrosse player in his younger days for Boardman and Eccles. Harry also served the Eccles Scouting community for a great number of years playing a major part in the refurbishment of the Old Drill Hall on Cromwell Road. Harry who would have been 87 next week, worked for the Manchester Ship Canal Company starting off as a plumber at 15 years of age and retiring as a Planning Officer.
Harry’s funeral will take place at Peel Green Crematorium at 2.20 on Monday 21stJanuary followed by refreshments back at the Clubhouse.
If you have a photo or memory of Harry, please share with the club via social media so we can publish.
